Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster in Pigeon Forge

Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster: A Scenic Thrill Ride in Pigeon Forge

Tucked just over a mile from the Parkway in Pigeon Forge along Wears Valley Road, the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster offers a unique and exhilarating mountain experience for visitors of all ages. As the first mountain coaster to debut in the Smoky Mountains in 2013, it remains one of the most celebrated, boasting the longest track of its kind in the United States.

An Unforgettable Ride Through the Mountains

Begin your adventure with a peaceful ascent up the mountainside, as your cart is gently towed by cable. This tranquil, five-minute ride offers scenic views of the Smokies and informative signposts marking your elevation. Once at the summit, a banner reminds riders how to operate the brakes—then gravity takes over.

Ride at Your Own Pace

Designed for riders of all comfort levels, each coaster cart features hand-operated brakes, allowing you to control your speed on the descent. Whether you're looking for a high-speed thrill or a leisurely coast down the mountain, the ride is tailored to your preferences. Safety is built in with a magnetic braking system that ensures carts maintain a secure distance and speed at all times. Each sled seats one or two people, making it ideal for families, couples, or solo riders.

Adventure Around Every Turn

The downhill journey lasts approximately two and a half minutes, with more than a dozen twists, sweeping turns, and four switchbacks. Speeds can reach nearly 30 miles per hour, offering an extended thrill that sets mountain coasters apart from traditional amusement park rides.

A Dazzling Nighttime Experience

After dark, the experience transforms. Over 300,000 LED lights illuminate the track, creating a magical ambiance. Families enjoy the colorful glow lighting their ride, while couples may find the night ride to be a romantic way to take in the Smoky Mountain scenery. The nighttime ride delivers a distinctly different atmosphere and is highly recommended in addition to a daytime visit.
