Opened in 2002 by archaeologist Andrea Ludden, The Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum was born out of a personal passion that evolved into a one-of-a-kind institution. What began as a search for a simple pepper mill soon turned into a lifelong fascination. Ludden's growing collection became too large for her home in Texas, prompting a move to Gatlinburg to establish a permanent space for her unique treasures.
The shakers on display span decades and continents, showcasing an astonishing range of themes—from presidents and animals to vegetables and abstract art. Each piece reflects the culture, design sensibilities, and humor of its time and place, making the collection both diverse and thought-provoking.
More Than Just Shakers
